A. The mission of the museum and visitor center is to:

1. Identify, collect, preserve, research, interpret, and exhibit the artistic, cultural and historical heritage of Wasilla, Knik, Willow Creek, Hatcher Pass, Knik and Ahtna Athabascan tribes and the greater Wasilla areas;

2. To inventory/accession records and maintain permanent records of collection holdings;

3. To maintain an active exhibition, events and activities calendar. Through its facilities, collections, and varied participatory activities provide an important cultural center for Wasilla;

4. To maintain the museum and visitor center and town site as well as various historic buildings within the city of Wasilla holdings; and

5. To provide a visitor information center for visitors and residents alike. Through the creation and distribution of promotional materials and participation in joint marketing efforts, support tourism development of the greater Wasilla area.

B. The city shall assume all powers not specifically prohibited by state and borough statutes, relative to historic and cultural preservation.

C. The city assumes museum powers to serve the residents of the city and visitors as set forth in AS 14.57 (references museums and natural and cultural history repositories and property held by museums). (Ord. 16-32 § 3, 2016)
